Marta’s Rio de Janeiro Guesthouse
is a beautiful 1200 sq. meter penthouse covering two floors of a 1940’s Art Deco beachfront building that is located at the southern end of Copacabana, only a short walk from Ipanema. This part of Copacabana is a traditional residential area with a vibrant and rich local life, and there is a large selection of great restaurants and bars nearby. The icing on the cake is the spectacular views from the Guesthouse itself which include the full extent of the famous Copacabana beach, the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Fort Copacabana.
If you are traveling to Rio, your time is precious and having access to local knowledge is central to ensuring your vacation is rich and full of memorable moments. With over 16 years’ experience hosting visitors to Rio de Janeiro and over 30 years in the field of tourism, your hostess Marta is able to offer the truly personal service and experience of a local carioca (Rio resident) which will make your time in Rio immeasurably richer and more rewarding. Whether it’s advice on which restaurants to go to, how to make the most of Carnival and New Year’s Eve, organizing local tours to the city, football matches and favelas, discovering the best time to visit the various scenic highlights of Rio, or experiencing some of the less well known secrets of Rio. Marta can help you with all your plans, from the beginning to the end of your dream trip to Rio de Janeiro. If you are not fluent in Portuguese, no worries as Marta speak five languages, including English, German, Spanish and Italian.
Brazil will be hosting many big events over the next few years including the 2014 World Cup and Olympic Games in 2016. We will be prepared to receive and help all our guests at the Rio Guesthouse.

Marta founded the Rio Guesthouse and special home in vibrant Copacabana, dubbed the ‘Princess of the Sea’ because of its poetic aura, famous from 1930 – 1960.
Copacabana has been immortalized in many songs, books, paintings and photographs and is a tourist reference in Brazil. Copacabana made its mark with the important birth of Bossa Nova in 1958 with the Song “Canção de Amor demais”. Copacabana is a lively neighborhood full of history and charm. Between 1763 – 1960 Rio de Janeiro was the Capital of Brazil and during this period was the highlight of the city.
Today Copacabana is known for its fabulous New Year’s Party, the Rio de Janeiro Gay Pride Parade, the street Carnival and many other events along the year.
Marta’s knowledge of tourism has come from working as a Tour Guide since 1978, living for many years in Germany and travelling around the world. In 1997 Marta decide to open the first Bed & Breakfast in Rio, at this time this style and concept of accommodation did not exist in Brazil. Marta’s first B&B began in her home in Ipanema, which was named ‘Marta’s Bed & Breakfast’.
Copacabana beach was always the place Marta dreamed to live, in 1999 she moved the penthouse where is located the Guesthouse today. With view to Av. Atlantica, and realize her dream of wake up with the most beautiful view in Rio. Marta inaugurated and open the Rio Guesthouse December 1999 with a spectacular millennium New Year ’s Eve party for 80 guests.
Marta designed and decorated the guesthouse with Brazilian antique furniture and has created a home with class and comfort for her guests. Her philosophy is that everyone would find a “Home away Home”, with a family atmosphere, safety, care, and she is able to offer guests from around the world an experience that is much more than a tourist. She wants to offer a personal touch and make guests feel part of the local life and share experiences with other travelers.
Marta goes out of her way to help guests to enjoy their stay and enjoy a beautiful homely atmosphere. Marta’s goal is making people happy! The holidays is are special moments where we want fulfill our dreams, discover new culture and taste, learn the history of places, read, meet people and celebrate life. Marta wants to ensure her guests enjoy every moment of their holidays in Rio and bring back great memories to share with family and friends.
